his officer was a beautiful office looking over washington, d.c. i let by gones be bigones most of the time. but it's a better relationship today. we consider each other friends. >> what are your politics? >> well, i started off coming out here as a republican. then dick bryan, who -- he was a partner of mine in the law office. left that part out when he was running for office. she was afraid with the association with the mob. we were kidding about that this morning. he was running for state assembly. that was the first race. the only election that meant anything as far as party was democratic primary. so my wife and myself switched from republican to democrat so we could support him. after i became the mayor, i really thought that it should be a position that you don't ask whether your one of your constituents is an r or d. we became nonpartisans. which was not a party. we're not affiliated with any party. and that's why we stand today. it's a -- it's a good feeling. they can treat everybody on the merit you don't have to worry about the politic.
